I got an opportunity to work on a simple website presenting plays and screenplays. I started by asking for inspiration websites, colours and other ideas. I continued by making example layouts and pages and we worked together to find a good fit. I made this website on Wordpress, on another default theme.
The idea formed over few meetings. We went from a proper website to a simple one page layout. I decided to remove the top navigation bar, since it didn't have a use anymore. The website includes the writer's image, bio and then the plays. We decided that only a summary of the play is shown on the first page and then it's expandable for more text and images. All the materials were ready. I tried to automate the layouts for each text but as we decided to keep it "one-page" only I didn't feel the need and all the components in each text varied a little so it was best to format them manually. This website is also mobile-friendly and accessible. I started the project with more accesibility buttons for reading, for example editing text size, spacing and font type on user-end, but we decided to scrap that. The customer wanted readable font and simple, off-white colours. I chose 2 fonts, one for headings and other for texts. As for the colours I chose "papyrus" fitting for writing theme and then another a bit clearer white. I added little bit of accent colour on few hover effects and on the small logo to expand the text. I loved working with long texts and a lot of materials. It felt like a puzzle to figure how to make the texts work the best with different sized screens.
I liked how it turned out. My vision was a bit more complicated with mutliple sites but for this projects all the those pages weren't necessary. Often more simple is better. I liked to do a calm, white/beige-toned website after the colourful one.
